Y. Jenny Wang, PhD

Y. Jenny Wang currently works on connecting the digital and physical worlds by combining technologies across extended reality, smart devices, and computer vision, with applications in city planning, manufacturing, digital models, and human-machine interfaces. She completed her PhD in Mechanical Engineering at MIT in 2022. Her thesis focused on acoustophoretic assembly — moving small objects with sound.

A versatile engineer with a particular interest in interdisciplinary problems, Jenny has worked on projects in a variety of domains, including fluid mechanics, nonlinear acoustics, manufacturing, heat transfer, atomistic modeling, and batteries. She enjoys distilling complex problems into their dominant components to create elegant models that provide insights and solutions.

In 2020, she co-founded Fuente Tech, a mobile-based geographical information system for urban data. Fuente Tech helps urban planners and officials in growing cities to engage with residents and to make informed policies.

In 2024, she led the Block Party project to win the Silver Prize and Best of Hardware at the MIT Reality Hack, which jump started a new venture in immersive technologies.

She is currently the Director of Innovation at medVR and the Director of Hardware Hack at MIT Reality Hack. She also works on custom projects and teaches part-time. Please reach out if you would like to collaborate on projects, workshops, or technical consulting.
